Sunday 28th January Andrew was racing A grade at a local club race with a stacked field of strong riders. He managed to claim 4th place
(Standing on wrong side of podium)
Sunday 4th February was the South Australia Masters Association State Criterium Championships and respective club Championships
We had several athletes racing across the age groups.
Stand out result was from Matt who claimed the Gold and became the State Champion in the M3 group in a stacked field. The final sprint was only split by .156 across the first 5 riders, see full state results here. Matt has been racing Crits all summer and pulled a win in B grade earlier in the week too.
Coach Michelle claimed the Gold and the State Championship in WM2 category but sadly was the only one in her age group but still had an impressive avg speed 36.7kmph for whole race.
It was also the club championships and in our clubs we had some great results across the age groups also

Phil Silver M3 SDVLCC
along with Richard and Keith VLCC
Phil F had a crash in M4 but is okay
Georg M5 Bronze SDVLCC

This year Adelaide Hills Masters Cycling Club annual event Tour of Goowla on February 24th and 25th is being sponsored by our team’s sponsor ADX Depot and have naming rights over the event. Pedal Action has also opted to sponsor Stage 1 along with the Finniss General Store.
The event consists of four stages over the two days, a team time trial, road races and a hill climb at the end. This year we will see a much higher level of competition across all grades as the standard of riders racing has improved.
Many of athletes are busy preparing for this event and it will prove to be a challenging two days, those planned to race are Keith, Dave, Richard, Georg, Paul, Colin, Steve and David and coach Michelle.
Here is a video we took of last years event as re-cap
Good luck to everyone, keep up the preparation!

Norwood Super Series Criterium Results
Earlier this week Norwood Cycling Club held their annual Tour Down Under racing series over three days, starting with the Rapha Kermesse at Uraidla, Giant Criterium at Victoria Park Monday and aBloc Cycling Beer Criterium on Tuesday also at Victoria Park.
With many from interstate riders coming along to race whilst the Tour Down Under is on it’s not surprising to see some very fast racing. Across the three days racing were athletes Matt, James, Andrew and Coach Phil.
The first race proved too hot and fast for many as the hills were not kind, over half the field were DNFs in each grade.
The 2nd stage of the series at Victoria Park proved a much better day with most athletes finishing in the main bunch but honours went to Andrew picking up 3rd place in B grade.
The final stage, also at Victoria Park, everyone had settled down but the racing was just as tough with slightly windier conditions. The attacks came earlier, Andrew managed to get across to the winning break and had a solid sprint to claim 2nd in B grade.
Full results of the series can be found here

More results to follow after the final Norwood and Giant Crit Super Series also being held during Tour Down Under week
The 2018 racing continues with some outstanding results already this week. At the Southern Veteran and Ladies Cycling Club the season began with the usual time trial on a 16km course around McLaren Flat followed by two laps on the same course as graded scratch race but two laps. The race result was on the combined time of both races so the pressure was on to do a good time trial, the wind was buffeting riders around and proved very challenging.
Michelle rode and excellent race winning the time trial and backing up with 2nd place in the road race in D grade
Graham was next best placed with a 3rd in A grade
Well done to the rest of our athletes competing today the wind and mechanical problems played a big part in the results. Full Results can be found here
The results from earlier this week can be found here

Earlier this week on Boxing Day, South Coast Cycling Club held their annual race around the bay in Glenelg as part of the Bay Festival of Sport with Sponsorship from People Choice
Both coaches raced in their respective grades. Phil having been moved up into B grade from last year, the short technical circuit and the pace of the bunch proved too much for many including Phil and he was pulled from the race.
Michelle had better luck being placed in C grade with only two other women. The handicapping was not great and she should have raced with B grade. The racing was hard but she managed to pull of the win!
Nathan also had a good race in Junior C grade with 3rd place
Sunday saw athletes competing in two events locally and another interstate.
First up was the SDVLCC Handicap race at McLaren flat on a lumpy course and a challenge for the handicapper.
Colin was best placed in 3rd with Greg in a close 5th
Sunday was also the final round of the Cycling South Australia Super Series with athletes racing across multiple teams.
Keith, Matt and Graham helping to ensure the ADX Depot/Everything Bikes Team took out the team honours in Cat 2 Masters along with the sprint classification.
Jarrod racing in Cat 1 Masters had some great form and won several individual rounds for the BE BMW team – team placing not confirmed at time of posting
Michelle was finally back on form after having flu and helped secure the sprinters jersey for Blackchrome Butterfields team and the team placing 2nd in the series overall.
Andrew raced in a road race near Sydney on a looping hot dog course averaging 40kmph coming 3rd only by half a wheel!
