Weekend riding and racing update!

Racing season is now in full swing for many of our athletes peaking for their main events and pulling out some great form in the process!

Will start with an update from athelete Sam who is on cracking form and raced in a local race and came away with the outright win with A/B combined

This weekend also saw the start of the Cycling South Australia Super Series we had athletes across all the masters grades – masters men’s cat 1 and 2 and women’s cat 2.

Women’s cat 2 had coach Michelle and Nicola their field had a great field of nearly 40 riders on the start line! Michelle set the tone of the race by making it a hard and fast start, the team then took control and team mates making the break for the preme sprints and finishing with Ebony the sprint leader after round one. Michelle managed to finish 4th after almost catching the break away solo rider but brought sprinters with her, the team look strong for future rounds!

In the men’s cat 2 team we had coach Phil with Matt and Richard along with the rest of the team. The team were in strong form and did all they could in a messy race with coach Phil unexpectedly taking third in the final sprint.

In another team Steve S was also racing in his first crit back after a long winter managed to finish just of the pace of the bunch.

Video from the Masters men Cat 2 team race here

In the mens masters cat 1 race saw Keith back out there doing his best for the team but having been ill wasn’t in the best of form unfortunatley.
Great riding by all who raced this weekend  – looking forward to more results as the series progresses

On Sunday Nicola was back out there racing another criterium race with the VLCC and managed to claim 5th place in E grade – hard work backing up two days in a row, well done!

Up the east coast Brett took part in Robbie McEwan Gran Fondo on the Gold Coast 158km and almost 3000m – Congrats Brett

Athlete success at Lorne

Athletes had a very hard winter of training gearing up for the very popular event Amy’s Gran Fondo which is also a qualifying event for the Grand Fondo UCI World Championships, being held next year in Poland. The race is over 120km and over 1000m of climbing starting from Lorne heading inland and then back along the iconic Great Ocean Road.  The weather wasn’t in their favour with wet and windy conditions but much better than the pro’s had on the Saturday. With only Pat missing out on qualifying it was a very succseful event for our athletes and should be very proud of their hard work!

19-34 – 15th Sam Jones
45-49 – 4th Dave Dobson
50-54 – 10th Graham King, 29th Steve Bentley
55-59 – 4th Bill Robindson, 27th Colin Chapman, Stuart Hesseltine 28th, 58th Patrick O’Kane
